Malcolm Noble's Crime Fiction
Press Information Sheet: The Author

- Malcolm Noble was born on Westdale Lane, Gedling, Nottingham in 1951
- He grew up near the shores of the Solent, attending schools in Stubbington and Gosport before moving to Hardye's Grammar School, Dorchester.
- He spent some of his teenage years in Shropshire (where his mother, sister and brother still live), but returned to Hampshire in '68, living in Crookham Village and studying at Farnborough Technical College.
- As a young man, Malcolm Noble served in the Hampshire Police, working in Ringwood and Portsmouth, a chapter in his life that provides some background to his crime fiction. He also lived on the Isle of Wight for four years before moving away from the county.
- Malcolm Noble now lives in Market Harborough where he and his wife run a bookshop. His daughter, son-in-law and grandchild live nearby. He enjoys listening to jazz and blues music (Red Nichols and Howling Wolf especially) and collects the different editions of Raymond Chandler's books. Over the years, he has gathered a ramshackle bookcase of books on Hampshire, but without the order and forethought that would make them a collection.
- He has written nine mystery novels set in the south of England from the 1920s through to the 1960s. Press reviews have emphasised the author’s sense of place and atmosphere, his strong characterisation and first rate storytelling.
