Crime writer Malcolm Noble was born in Nottingham and grew up in Hampshire and Shropshire.
He served with the Portsmouth Police - a chapter in his life that provides some background to his detective novels set in a fictional seaport on the south coast. He now lives in Market Harborough where he and his wife run a secondhand bookshop
